    DNA Testing

    in SCI DNA

When you pull hairs and send in to the Official Registry (https://idgr-san-clemente-island-goat.com/) for DNA testing, the lab identifies the genetic markers for that specific animal. Each locus has a type associated with it. The locus and type can be compared to another goats DNA markers to determine if the combination of sire & dam could create an offspring with the subject animal's DNA. For this reason, it is important to have both the sire & dam tested and compared to the offspring for parent verification. Without testing on both parents, the parentage cannot be confirmed with high confidence. With both parents tested, the parentage verification is given with a very high confidence level. Many times, an animal believed to be the sire turns out not to be in situations where multiple bucks are on the same farm. Especially for SCI with limited numbers & genetics, DNA testing is extremely important. It can also help fill in holes in pedigrees over time.

Absolutely correct. We see this over an over again. When you test with https://idgr-san-clemente-island-goat.com/ you can be sure that the utmost care and high value of Parental Analysis is completed by IDGR and UC Davis. This brings you the correct lineage on your Official Registration Certificate.
